Happy Trails!

I've been loving Sundays with the kids lately! We have something to look forward to every week! We started all of this cause it's really hard to entertain the kids without letting them play with their friends on Sundays. We go to church from 9 to 12, so the days were getting really long. Some of the neighbors let their kids play, and they are always coming over and asking if our kids can come out with them... to which saying no is always followed by extreme dramatics. I got really tired of it, and was having a hard time enjoying our family time! So now we hike. Well, really it's more of a walk- the kids have no concept of hiking.

Today's adventure took us deep into the High Uintah Mountains. Starting at Spirit Lake, we parked the very best and dirtiest off-road vehicle and "hiked" to Jesson Lake about 1 1/2 mile up a very rocky, (not mountain-bikable- sorry mom) trail that was some of the most beautiful terrain I have seen in a LONG time! There was no way we were going to see any wildlife walking a trail with our kids. Jon had the bright idea to give them walkie-talkies in case they got lost (?) and they couldn't keep their fingers off the buttons! They talked, well more like yelled, into their radios even when they were standing right next to eachother! There wasn't a deer, moose, elk, bear or squirrel that couldn't hear us coming for a LONG ways off! But no complaining! They loved it the whole way!

It was beautiful. I loved being on the trail and have been looking forward to these mini vacations each week! I'm so glad that my husband is as good to go as I am. If any of you are in need of a little away time and want to come where the air is thinner, cleaner and quite pretty- come on up!

Awww beautiful pictures! That is where most of my vacations as a kid were, so it brings back lots of memories of our week long backpacking trips.

We have the same rule on Sundays and I cringe when the doorbell rings. Maybe we will start taking drives or something to give us something to do!

I knew the SECOND I saw the picture of the bridge you were at Spirit- I helped build that bridge. Many summers spent living up there and more memories than you can imagine- good place to pick for a hike. Pics made me cry... good times!
