Thoughts on Thanksgiving

I woke up this morning needing Christmas music. I love it, and listen to it all year around, it energizes me creatively and relaxes me as well. I think it's perfectly OK to listen to Christmas music constantly once Halloween is over, what is Thanksgiving if not another reason to be thankful for Christmas? And the songs- well, just listen!
See, it's like this. I have always loved the holiday season. I love the cold (before Christmas, hate it after) and I love the colors. I love the food and the spirit. But last year, I didn't like any of it. I started the season off with a good attitude, but it was quickly soiled by working retail and having to be there on the day of the holiday, or the day after... and it seemed like last year, everyone around me was stressed and ornery. It ruined Christmas for me- I felt like I gave everything I had and got in return nothing but an empty bank account. Poor me, right? Well this year I am determined to make it different. I am taking my own advice and simplifying my Christmas shopping, I am toning down the wish list and I am taking time to enjoy the season instead of stressing about all the crap associated with it. I will still be working the day before and the 2 days after Thanksgiving, and probably Christmas eve-( shame on all you procrastinators! ) But, unlike last year, I will do everything I can to enjoy it.

Good for you!! I have been listening to Christmas music every day in the car. I love going into stores and seeing all the decorations. Usually by the time it gets here though, I am beat. I'm going to take your advice and simplify too!! I love my kids at Christmas too. What fun!!

What a great attitude! I love Christmas time, and I agree the simpler the better. I love to keep things as basic as I can, plus I don't won't spoiled kids. One year we over did it and they didn't even seem to apperciate it. The next year they expected the same thing. the funny thing is when we keep it simple they seem to apperciate what they get even more. I warned my kids that this year is going to be focused on family time, not gifts. Problem is my husband loves to give them more than I would. I just hope they don't focus on it. We'll see how they do.

Great attitude! I tell myself the same thing every year, keep it simple, stick to the list. However, I always see the ads and the great prices and I just can't help myself. Maybe this year...

I think I am with you. I just want to eat lots of yummy food, sing my heart away to christmas music, and not stress. My kids don't need ONE thing...toy or not toy, and I hate to buy things they don't need. I am getting creative with stuff to have them ask for.
I missed the first half of the program, I am the worst mom ever. I had to sing in another ward. I did see Hallie and your cute little boy though, he had it memorized so good! Did I miss your lesson today? I will be sad if I did. TTYL
