An eventful day...

The first day of school was really the highlight of our week.  I was surprised at how quickly my day went by- I did get a few things done, but before I knew it, I was waiting at the bus stop for the kids to get off the bus!  The fun really started then.  Jon had called me from the school (Jones Paint and Glass is working on a few things there since they recently remodeled) and said they were running around all stressed out cause the buses were all screwed up.  He told me not to expect the kids on time, so I wasn't surprised when the bus showed up at 4:30- a half an hour late.  However, I was SHOCKED when Ali and her little friend RyLee did NOT get off!  I ran up to the bus driver and panicked all I could get out was "my daughter?"  He looked back on the bus- and then at me and said
"She must have gotten on the wrong bus!"
Words no mother wants to hear I'm sure.  He did leave- which kinda made me mad, I know they have little radio's, so find my daughter, let me know where to pick her up and that she's OK, right?  Nope- I had NO IDEA what to do!  It wasn't till almost 5:00 that someone from the bus garage told me I could pick up my daughter there!  I was livid!  They had my phone number!  Would it really be too much to ask to let me know what was going on instead of me driving through the backwoods of Vernal trying to figure out for myself where they may have dropped her off?
As it turns out, the two girls were scared to death on the meanest bus drivers bus that went clear out to Jensen (about 15 minutes out from my house) before coming back into town.  I guess the meanest bus driver even got mad at the girls for not getting off on their stop!  When she found out they were on the wrong bus- she brought them back to the bus garage- and proceeded to tell me that it was her teachers fault for putting her on that bus!  I in turn, called the school and politely YELLED at the answering machine I got- soliciting a return call that didn't take more that 10 minutes.  The school then pointed the finger back at the transportation department and I am sitting here rolling my eyes STILL that it mattered to them more whose fault it was, instead of the fact that my little girl was lost- trusting only those that she's been told to trust.  The next day Gage made sure he got her on the right bus.
Yes, Gage should have done that in the first place, but in his defense, he hadn't seen her all day long!  He came home and asked if I'd come and picked her up, cause he didn't see her at lunch or recess at all that day!  He didn't realize that they are on different time schedules for recess and lunch, and that he wouldn't have seen her cause she'd already been!  He was so worried, and the next day, even though Ali had a sticker on her shirt with the WRONG BUS NUMBER AGAIN!!!!!  he made sure she stayed with him!

Oh Goodness, I would have been very upset. It's too bad that these kind of things have to happen to the little ones. Thankfully she has a big brother.

I don't care who's fault it is, your bus driver should have radioed and found Ali before he left your stop. They usually do that. I'm glad everything turned out ok. What a nightmare for you waiting.

Excuse me, WHY is it an 8 year olds job to make sure his sister is on the right bus??? For heck sake get it right out there! It's not that hard. Lots of people are looking for a good job if they don't want to do theirs the right way and with the right attitude. They are working with KIDS, they are far from perfect. Maybe this needs to be taken up with the school board...NO, not maybe, this NEEDS to be taken up with the school board. Some little one could get lost or worse! I am SO glad that Ali and her friend are okay...No thanks to the bus drivers! Good job Stephanie, your a great MOM!
